Bass'n Stars 2005 Classic Report
Everyone had fun at the Classic this year (well most everyone).  The site ended up being East and West Crooked Lakes out near Brighton.  The wind kicked up and the air had a chill to it but at least the rain held out.  We had a great turn out of the top ten with 9 out of the ten fishing this year.  Mike and Derrick show off Mikes FishWe had 2 other members show up to fish the "Judges" side along with Nicks son Bryan, Chris' son Zach and Mike's nephew Derrick.  Mike Rusher took the honors as the winner this year.  Mike caught a total of 10.53 pounds.  Derrick shows off his 1st place LagemouthHis nephew, Derrick managed to take the Big Fish Award for the day with a 2.93 pound largemouth.  Bryan Kurlovich took first place out of all the Judges this year.  His 6.20 sack of Largemouth was very impressive.  Bryan was last seen grinning ear to ear, mumbling something about showing his dad how it's done...

2005 Foote and Cooke Dam Ponds Report
The Foote and Cooke Dam Pond Tournaments were tough ones.  There were a total of only 22 fish caught during the two day event.  Paul Wagner ended up taking First Place with a total of 11.41 pounds, with 6 fish.  That was Paul's first win since his first tournament he fished with the club. Paul caught the only 4 fish limit all weekend.  Fred Anstead had second place secured with 9.96 pounds with 5 fish.  The Second Place Finish helped Fred Secure the Angler of the Year and Mr. Bass awards.
There were actually more Smallmouth caught than Largemouth over the weekend.  The weather was beautiful on Saturday but Sunday brought some early thunderstorms.  After the storms cleared it got nice out.  Pictures are limited for the tournament, the photographer apparently did not push the button or something on the winning creel of fish.  We will work on that for next year...  CLICK HERE to go to the Picture gallery.  The rest of the results are also posted. 2005 Lake St. Clair Report

Their bag of Smallies averaged around 3-1/2 pounds.  Second place was taken by the Nodacker / Bishop team with 15.84 pounds.  Chris Bishop also took the Big Fish for the day with a 4.36 pound Smallmouth.  Third place was secured by Karl Gohrmann and Fred Anstead. 2005 Maceday-Lotus Lakes Report
The crowd gathers for the Weigh in at MacedayWith the weather just not cooperating, between the heavy rain, lightning and at times high winds, there were quite a few fish caught, considering.  A total of just 4 limits were caught out a possible 14, it was a tough day all around.  Mike Rusher managed to squeak out Dave Gutuskey for First Place by just 0.02 of a pound. Third Place went to Dean Carroll.   Dave Gutuskey took Big Fish for the day with a 3.90 pound Largemouth.  If you want to see all of the stats for the tournament CLICK HERE.

2005 Burt Mullett Tournament a Success
Dean Carroll and Mike Borashko did a great job of finding fish both days on Burt Mullett. Their first day winning 5 fish limit sack was an impressive 20.70 pounds. That was over a 4 pound average per fish. Most everyone ended up catching fish both days.  If you would like to see the stats, CLICK HERE, if you want to see a Photo Gallery of the two day Tournament, CLICK HERE.

2005 St. Clair Friendly Tournament on August 20th
A lot of us got together the day after the St. Clair Tournament and fished another day.  Karl Gohrmann and Dean Carroll teamed up to win a 5 fish tournament with 10.01 pounds.  Kurlovich and Borashko took Second place with 8.8 pounds, Paul Wagner had 3rd covered with 7.55 pound and Mike Rusher secured 4th with 6.57 pounds.  Everyone had a pretty good time, and the weather cooperated much better the second day, with less wind but some rain.

Michigan Bass Invitational for 2005
The 2005 MBI on Lake St. Clair on September 18th was a great success.  It took a total of 65.09 pounds to win it.  Our Club managed a impressive 58.6 pounds.  Our Club Team took a fairly close Second Place, just a couple more fish would have done it!.  We could not quite overtake the first place team this year.  Our team did have the top two Boat weights with Gordy Nodacker and Drew Rodgers taking top weight with 26.77 pounds for 7 fish.  Paul Wagner and Fred Anstead took the second place weight with 20.32 pounds with 7 fish (all Smallies, believe it or not).  No other teams, out of the 24 teams fishing, brought in over 20 pounds.  Drew and Gordy also won the Big Bass Pot with a nice 5.51 pound Smallmouth Bass they caught.  Everyone on our team wants to thank Rod Evans and his guys for all of the effort and the fine job they did organizing the tournament.  Things went very well. They should be very proud.

Drew and Gordy show off the $240 they won with their 5.51 pound Smallmouth. It was the Big Bass Winner for the day.

Drew, Gordy and Paul show off some of Drew and Gordy's 26.77 pound catch. This sack was the top weight out of all the teams for the day.

2005 MBCF State Championship is complete
The 2005 Michigan BASS Chapter Federation, State Championship was held September 8, 9 and 10 on Lake St. Clair.  The results are posted on the MBCF Web Site.

2005 Lakeville Lake, another success
Gordy Nodacker managed to bring in a 4 fish limit on a very hot day at Lakeville on July 10th.  He brought a total of 9.25 pound to the scale to bring him a win for the day.  Gordy also brought in the big Bass of the tournament with a 4.31 pound Largemouth.  Gordy is Back!! after taking a year off to obviously practice his techniques.  Second place at Lakeville was taken by Dean Carroll with 8.94 pounds.  Fred Anstead managed a good third with 8.01 pounds.  All 14 anglers caught some fish.  Which is a lot to say for their skills, being it was around 90 degrees and sunny.  Everyone should be proud of them selves.  Sorry there were no pictures, the President forgot to get the camera out of the truck!

Final Tournament of the season...
Tournament Report from Walloon Lake in 2004
Dave (L) and Drew (R) show off Dave's winning catch for Walloon.   After a last minute change in locations, the final tournament of the season went off with out a hitch.  The lake did not produce any monster fish but did yield a few nice sacks.  There were a total of only 3 limits brought in to the weigh-in.  Dave Gutuskey, Drew Rodgers and Paul Wagner managed to find 4 fish each.  The rest of the 13 club members as well as a guest (Richie Rottenberk) brought in various sacks of mostly Smallmouth.  Dave Gutuskey tricked the largest batch of fish for the day, he had a sack of 11 pounds 7 ounces.   There were a couple of skunks and we won't mention their names, because they almost always DO catch fish.
Mike Rusher and Drew show off Drews catch.
Drew Rodgers took Second Place with this creel.
Mike shows off a couple of his fish.
Mike Rusher shows off just a couple of his 3rd place fish for the day.

Bass'n Stars 2004 Classic Report
This Classic was done a little differently this year.  After the Walloon Lake Tournament, the Tournament Director Chris Gutuskey, let the contestants choose which lake they wanted to fish from three different lakes.  Chris decided to shake things up this year.  After a pole, Smallwood Lake was set for the location of the 2004 Classic.  Most everyone had fished the lake previously and liked it.
The lake showed some of it's true colors.  Paul shows off his nice 5-4 Largemouth. Two fish over 5 pounds and one 4-1/2 pounder were caught by the guys.  Paul Wagner got the Lunker of the day.  It was a nice 5 pound 4 ounce Largemouth.  Tony Scagnetti wasn't far behind with a 5 pound 3 ounce Largie.  Barry Whitehead pulled a 4 pound 8 ounce Largemouth from the lake also.  Tony shows off his 2nd place, 5-3 LargemouthAll in all, it was a good day.
The Trophy for the Classic this year goes to Paul Wagner.  Paul brought in a 13 pound 8 ounce creel to take the title.  That total was almost 2-1/2 pounds ahead of the rest of the field.  This was Paul's first Classic win since joining the club.
This year, all ten of the "Top Ten" contenders fished the Classic.  Usually, someone is unable to make the Tournament, but miraculously, everyone was able to fish. It was nice to have it a competitive as it was.   This year it felt like a true "Classic" with all of the contenders there.  If you want to see the final stats for the tournament CLICK HERE to go to the Stats page.

Report on the 2004 Invitational Tournament at Devil's Lake
Little Bill and Nick discuss their catch at the weigh-in.     Our club was invited to an invitational tournament at Devil's Lake in Lenawee County on September 19th.  We sent 4 boats with two of our club members on each boat.

The following people fished the Invitational:

  • Paul Wagner (B) & Mark Miller
  • Nick Kurlovich (B) & Bill Kandillian
  • Tony Scagnetti (B) & Mike Borashko
  • Brian Waldo (B) & Drew Rodgers

The tournament was fished by a total of five clubs.  Each club had 8 members fishing.  The winning club had 15 fish between them, with 26.03 pounds of fish.  The Oakland County Bass Masters had the honors.  The big bass for the day was a 3.25 pounder, caught by the Michigan Bass Busters.  The hosting club did a nice cook out after the weigh in and everyone got fed well.  Little Bill's Trophies did all of the Trophies and plaques for the winners.
Our Team had a tough day.  Drew and Brian decided early in the tournament to toss in the towel. They left the lake by around 10 am or so after not getting much of a bite.  The rest of the team stuck it out and ended up with only two keepers.  Little Bill managed a 2+ pounder while Tony picked up a 1+ pounder just before quitting time.  It was only good enough for last place in the standings.
The winning team got to choose the location for next years Invitational, they chose Lake St. Clair out of the Harley Ensign Launch.

2004 State Championship Report
The Michigan BASS Chapter Federation State Championship was a tough one.  This year it was held on Lake Charlevoix and connecting waters.  Several clubs reported before the tournament that fishing had been really tough for the past couple of weeks.  The Salmon had started moving up into the lake.  Paul Sack was chosen as the Chairman for the MBCF.  This year, our President was appointed as Co-Chairman for the Championship.
Bass Pro Shop as well as our club sponsor Wonderland Marine West were sponsors.  Several other sponsors contributed towards the event.  Bass Pro Shop was a major contributor this year.  They provided several thousand dollars worth of Gift Cards as well as money to provide a Barbeque for all 240 people on the first day of the tournament.  Bass Pro also brought their 30 foot pontoon boat up for the weekend.  That is quite a monster pontoon.  Tom Sokolowski is the guy who runs Bass pro Shop in Auburn hills.  He bent over backwards to make this the most successful State Championship ever (according to several people).
The official tournament standings are posted if you want to see them, but the catches were not what they should have been.  Some of you will remember Paul Soma.  He was in our club up until he moved north.  He managed to pull in over 16 pounds of Bass the first day, but got a big zero the second day.  Paul did make the State Team with his sack of fish.  Your President managed to get skunked both days, but he was not alone.  There were a total of 99 skunks the first day and a whopping 124 the second day.  That was out of about 204 anglers.  Check out the final standings here.
